Meditation journey to meet Pan

Meditation should begin with a relaxation exercise and some 4 times 4 breathing exercises. Meditation should be read slowly and calmly.

Close your eyes, and, allow a mist to gently and softly enclose around you. You are Travelling in this mist, to a place that may have existed a long time ago or may some day exist.

As the mist gently clears you find yourself in early morning sunlight, it feels soft and comfortable. Open your eyes and see that you are on the edge of a lake with beautiful tree's of a forest all around . Fragrant flowers of every imaginable colour and hue to look at everywhere. Look down and see your feet on a small path that seems to skirt around the lake. It looks pleasing so you decide to follow it and take a walk around the shore to soak up some of the wonderful world around you. See ahead of you rabbits scuttling across your path playfully. A pair of majestic swans glide effortlessly across the smooth and glass like surface of the lake. Smell the good clean wholesome smells of the forest.

Walk a little further, you can see a small boat gliding towards you on the lake .Making small ripples on the surface of the water, eventually it draws up beside you and stops. It looks very inviting. Climb abroad and slowly it moves out unto the water. You can trail your hand in the cool clear water and when you look into its depths you can see small lovely golden fish darting beneath the surface of the water. A gentle breeze ripples the water surface and gently caresses your face and arms. Sail gently and smoothly until slowly but surely you reach the bank at the other side and then disembark.

As you disembark, before you is another small track, lined with small wildflowers leading into the woods. Start down this path and feel joyful at these lovely surroundings. The feel the urge to skip and dance is overwhelming. The realisation dawns upon you that its because in the distance you can hear the happy sounds of pipes and singing. Softly and gently they seem to beckon forth and in your heart is a gladness at simply living. You are pleased to have the gift of life and the ability to enjoy it.

So dancing, dancing. A dance that comes from your innermost being, head down the path. Each step you take, the music gets a little louder and clearer. It gets closer and closer, until you come around a bend in the path and you come across a glade.

Take a deep breath and smell the fragrance of violets, Lilly of the valley and wild cherry blossom. Realise the singing you can hear is the elusive singing of the woodland elves being born towards you on the breeze.

Hear a brook murmuring its way down towards the lake and the tree tops rustling. There is the innumerable choirs of birds mingling their song with the elves and pipes. The sun shines gently down, filtered through the lacy tangle of overhead branches and you can make out the brilliant blue sky and small fluffy white clouds.

In the midst of the glade, where blooms the first yellow primroses, is a rock encircled with ivy and blossoming lilac, you see him seated on this rock. You recognise him as Pan with his little cloven hooves, he is playing his pipes. He has a weathered face, he wears a wreath of green around his golden curls .His eyes are timeless, deep and endless, wild yet wise.

As you walk up he stops playing and looks at you with a pleased and welcoming look . He stands and greets you, then laughs with the pure joy at seeing you. A laugh that reminds you of the innocent laughter of children, and the laughter is so infectious and merry that you laugh with him and it makes you feel alive!

When the laughter has subsided he reaches behind the rock he was sitting on and produces a bowl and a jug. He pours some of the liquid from the jug into the bowl and he bids you to look into the bowl and see. Take it from him. He takes up his pipes and continues his tune. Stare into the depths of the bowl , the liquid seems to swirl and mist but then it clears and you see a sight that is just for you.

After a while you look up and Pan puts down his pipes once again , reclaims the bowl and he speaks to you.
"You are a very special person, unique the world over. Please remember this. Enjoy the small things in life, like a smile from a stranger or seeing a birds nest, " He pauses and smiles at you. "Remember to love our Mother Earth well," and yet again he reaches behind the rock and hands to you a gift.

Thank and bow to him. He bids you blessings and farewell, then he picks up his pipes and continues to play his lovely tune.

Turn away and continue down the path. It brings you through the woods, back to the lake at the point at which you first began. At this point, feel the mists slowly start to envelop you again and begin your journey back through time and space to the present. When you arrive, carefully think of your journey. I hope you have enjoyed it, when you feel you are ready open your eyes and stretch.
